msm-4.14: Make macros no-op using ((void)0)
Do not solely rely on compiler optimizations to get the workaround of having macros do nothing using an empty do-while loop. It's inefficient. Use ((void)0) to which the standard assert macro expands when NDEBUG is defined. No functional change intended. [mcdofrenchfreis]: Implement this patch to tree using the command: git grep -l "do {} while (0)" | xargs sed -i "s/do {} while (0)/((void)0)/g" Change-Id: I9615c62c46670e31ed8d0d89d195144541baa3e6 Signed-off-by: Tashfin Shakeer Rhythm <tashfinshakeerrhythm@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: mcdofrenchfreis <xyzevan@androidist.net> Signed-off-by: Richard Raya <rdxzv.dev@gmail.com> |

block: Improve shared tag set performance
Remove the code for fair tag sharing because it significantly hurts performance for UFS devices. Removing this code is safe because the legacy block layer worked fine without any equivalent fairness algorithm. This algorithm hurts performance for UFS devices because UFS devices have multiple logical units. One of these logical units (WLUN) is used to submit control commands, e.g. START STOP UNIT. If any request is submitted to the WLUN, the queue depth is reduced from 31 to 15 or lower for data LUNs. block: initialize integrity buffer to zero before writing it to media
commit 899ee2c3829c5ac14bfc7d3c4a5846c0b709b78f upstream. Metadata added by bio_integrity_prep is using plain kmalloc, which leads to random kernel memory being written media. For PI metadata this is limited to the app tag that isn't used by kernel generated metadata, but for non-PI metadata the entire buffer leaks kernel memory. Fix this by adding the __GFP_ZERO flag to allocations for writes. cfq: Clear queue pointers after unpinning them in cfq_pd_offline
BFQ is already doing a similar thing in its .pd_offline_fn() method implementation. While it seems that after commit 4c6994806f70 ("blk-throttle: fix race between blkcg_bio_issue_check() and cgroup_rmdir()") was reverted leaving these pointers intact no longer causes crashes clearing them is still a sensible thing to do to make the code more robust. cfq have some internal fields that use sched_clock() which can trivially use ktime_get_ns() instead. block: Disable preemption during IPI consideration
The function `__blk_complete_request` attempts to acquire the current CPU. It determines where the demanding request should be processed. In doing so, it checks if the current CPU and the previously requested CPU share the same cache, and if so, to place the request on the local CPU. The issue with acquiring the current CPU with using `smp_processor_id` is that the current task might be preempted mid-request completion. This will either delay block requests from being executed, or fail to execute entirely. Use `get_cpu` and `put_cpu` to prevent this oops from occurring. See `blk-mq.c` for more details. blk-mq: Do not wake idle CPUs to queue same-origin requests
Same-origin requests are great for cache locality, but in the case where the origin CPU is already idle (i.e. the task his migrated), waking it to process a block request is inefficient for power management. Since the currently executing CPU is not considered idle, it would be more power efficient to miss the cache hit and avoid waking an idle CPU. block: fix signed int overflow in Amiga partition support
[ Upstream commit fc3d092c6bb48d5865fec15ed5b333c12f36288c ] The Amiga partition parser module uses signed int for partition sector address and count, which will overflow for disks larger than 1 TB. Use sector_t as type for sector address and size to allow using disks up to 2 TB without LBD support, and disks larger than 2 TB with LBD. This bug was reported originally in 2012, and the fix was created by the RDB author, Joanne Dow <jdow@earthlink.net>. A patch had been discussed and reviewed on linux-m68k at that time but never officially submitted. This patch differs from Joanne's patch only in its use of sector_t instead of unsigned int. No checking for overflows is done (see patch 3 of this series for that). block: Remove special-casing of compound pages
commit 1b151e2435fc3a9b10c8946c6aebe9f3e1938c55 upstream. The special casing was originally added in pre-git history; reproducing the commit log here: > commit a318a92567d77 > Author: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> > Date: Sun Sep 21 01:42:22 2003 -0700 > > [PATCH] Speed up direct-io hugetlbpage handling > > This patch short-circuits all the direct-io page dirtying logic for > higher-order pages. Without this, we pointlessly bounce BIOs up to > keventd all the time. In the last twenty years, compound pages have become used for more than just hugetlb. Rewrite these functions to operate on folios instead of pages and remove the special case for hugetlbfs; I don't think it's needed any more (and if it is, we can put it back in as a call to folio_test_hugetlb()). This was found by inspection; as far as I can tell, this bug can lead to pages used as the destination of a direct I/O read not being marked as dirty. If those pages are then reclaimed by the MM without being dirtied for some other reason, they won't be written out. Then when they're faulted back in, they will not contain the data they should. It'll take a pretty unusual setup to produce this problem with several races all going the wrong way. This problem predates the folio work; it could for example have been triggered by mmaping a THP in tmpfs and using that as the target of an O_DIRECT read. blk-throttle: fix lockdep warning of "cgroup_mutex or RCU read lock required!"
[ Upstream commit 27b13e209ddca5979847a1b57890e0372c1edcee ] Inside blkg_for_each_descendant_pre(), both css_for_each_descendant_pre() and blkg_lookup() requires RCU read lock, and either cgroup_assert_mutex_or_rcu_locked() or rcu_read_lock_held() is called. Fix the warning by adding rcu read lock. block: bio-integrity: Copy flags when bio_integrity_payload is cloned
[ Upstream commit b6a4bdcda430e3ca43bbb9cb1d4d4d34ebe15c40 ] Make sure to copy the flags when a bio_integrity_payload is cloned. Otherwise per-I/O properties such as IP checksum flag will not be passed down to the HBA driver. Since the integrity buffer is owned by the original bio, the BIP_BLOCK_INTEGRITY flag needs to be masked off to avoid a double free in the completion path. Fixes: aae7df50190a ("block: Integrity checksum flag") Fixes: b1f01388574c ("block: Relocate bio integrity flags") Reported-by: Saurav Kashyap <skashyap@marvell.com> Tested-by: Saurav Kashyap <skashyap@marvell.com> Signed-off-by: Martin K. block: unhash blkdev part inode when the part is deleted
v5.11 changes the blkdev lookup mechanism completely since commit 22ae8ce8b892 ("block: simplify bdev/disk lookup in blkdev_get"), and small part of the change is to unhash part bdev inode when deleting partition. Turns out this kind of change does fix one nasty issue in case of BLOCK_EXT_MAJOR: 1) when one partition is deleted & closed, disk_put_part() is always called before bdput(bdev), see blkdev_put(); so the part's devt can be freed & re-used before the inode is dropped 2) then new partition with same devt can be created just before the inode in 1) is dropped, then the old inode/bdev structurein 1) is re-used for this new partition, this way causes use-after-free and kernel panic. It isn't possible to backport the whole big patchset of "merge struct block_device and struct hd_struct v4" for addressing this issue. https://lore.kernel.org/linux-block/20201128161510.347752-1-hch@lst.de/ So fixes it by unhashing part bdev in delete_partition(), and this way is actually aligned with v5.11+'s behavior. block: sed-opal: kmalloc the cmd/resp buffers
[ Upstream commit f829230dd51974c1f4478900ed30bb77ba530b40 ] In accordance with [1] the DMA-able memory buffers must be cacheline-aligned otherwise the cache writing-back and invalidation performed during the mapping may cause the adjacent data being lost. It's specifically required for the DMA-noncoherent platforms [2]. Seeing the opal_dev.{cmd,resp} buffers are implicitly used for DMAs in the NVME and SCSI/SD drivers in framework of the nvme_sec_submit() and sd_sec_submit() methods respectively they must be cacheline-aligned to prevent the denoted problem. One of the option to guarantee that is to kmalloc the buffers [2]. Let's explicitly allocate them then instead of embedding into the opal_dev structure instance. Note this fix was inspired by the commit c94b7f9bab22 ("nvme-hwmon: kmalloc the NVME SMART log buffer"). hrtimer: Consolidate hrtimer_init() + hrtimer_init_sleeper() calls
hrtimer_init_sleeper() calls require prior initialisation of the hrtimer object which is embedded into the hrtimer_sleeper. Combine the initialization and spare a function call. Fixup all call sites. This is also a preparatory change for PREEMPT_RT to do hrtimer sleeper specific initializations of the embedded hrtimer without modifying any of the call sites. No functional change. hrtimer: Remove task argument from hrtimer_init_sleeper()
All callers hand in 'current' and that's the only task pointer which actually makes sense. Remove the task argument and set current in the function. block: use ktime_get_ns() instead of sched_clock() for cfq and bfq
cfq and bfq have some internal fields that use sched_clock() which can trivially use ktime_get_ns() instead. Their timestamp fields in struct request can also use ktime_get_ns(), which resolves the 8 year old comment added by commit 28f4197e5d47 ("block: disable preemption before using sched_clock()"). block: Remove redundant WARN_ON()
Commit 2fff8a924d4c ("block: Check locking assumptions at runtime") added a lockdep_assert_held(q->queue_lock) which makes the WARN_ON() redundant because lockdep will detect and warn about context violations. The unconditional WARN_ON() does not provide real additional value, so it can be removed. blk-mq: count allocated but not started requests in iostats inflight
In the legacy block case, we increment the counter right after we allocate the request, not when the driver handles it. In both the legacy and blk-mq cases, part_inc_in_flight() is called from blk_account_io_start() right after we've allocated the request. blk-mq only considers requests started requests as inflight, but this is inconsistent with the legacy definition and the intention in the code. This removes the started condition and instead counts all allocated requests. Revert "blk-mq: remove code for dealing with remapping queue"
This reverts commit 37c7c6c76d431dd7ef9c29d95f6052bd425f004c. Turns out some drivers(most are FC drivers) may not use managed IRQ affinity, and has their customized .map_queues meantime, so still keep this code for avoiding regression. blkcg: small fix on comment in blkcg_init_queue
The comment before blkg_create() in blkcg_init_queue() was moved from blkcg_activate_policy() by commit ec13b1d6f0a0457312e615, but it does not suit for the new context.
