register_netdevice() could fail early when we have an invalid dev name, in which case ->ndo_uninit() is not called. For tun device, this is a problem because a timer etc. are already initialized and it expects ->ndo_uninit() to clean them up. We could move these initializations into a ->ndo_init() so that register_netdevice() knows better, however this is still complicated due to the logic in tun_detach(). Therefore, I choose to just call dev_get_valid_name() before register_netdevice(), which is quicker and much easier to audit. And for this specific case, it is already enough. Linux kernel ============ This file was moved to Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst Please notice that there are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
