commit 11a37eb66812ce6a06b79223ad530eb0e1d7294d upstream. We currently depend on probe() calling virtio_device_ready() - which happens after netdev registration. Since ndo_open() can be called immediately after register_netdev, this means there exists a race between ndo_open() and virtio_device_ready(): the driver may start to use the device (e.g. TX) before DRIVER_OK which violates the spec. Fix this by switching to use register_netdevice() and protect the virtio_device_ready() with rtnl_lock() to make sure ndo_open() can only be called after virtio_device_ready(). Linux kernel ============ This file was moved to Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst Please notice that there are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
